오늘 아침에 내 안에 주의 얼굴을 구하는 마음이 간절했다. 나의 기도와 소망은 시편 27:7-8의 다윗의 것과 같았다. "여호와여 내가 소리 내어 부르짖을 때에 들으시고 또한 나를 긍휼히 여기사 응답하소서. 너희는 내 얼굴을 찾으라 하실 때에 내가 마음으로 주께 말하되 여호와여 내가 주의 얼굴을 찾으리이다 하였나이다." 그렇게 주의 얼굴만을 구하고 싶은 날이 당신에게도 있었는가? 내가 오늘 그러하다.
영에 이끌려 올라간 후, 나는 그를 찾으며 그의 얼굴을 구하며 이곳저곳을 다니는 나의 모습을 보았다. 그러다 함께 앉아 식사를 하고 있는 한 무리들을 보았다. 그들은 행복하고 은혜에 차 보였다. 그들 뒤에는 노숙자처럼 보이는 한 남자가 있었다. 다소 정신적 장애가 있거나 억압되어 보였다. 그는 무리에 속하진 않았으나 무리를 사모하는 듯 쳐다보았고 무리에 속하고 싶어하는 그의 소망을 느낄 수 있었다.
나는 다른 장소로 옮겨져 긴 동굴속으로 들어갔고 그 외딴 자리에서 그의 얼굴을 계속 구했다. 그러나, 거기서도 아무도 볼 수 없었다. 터널에서 마침내 나왔을때는 도시 거리처럼 보이는 곳에 있었다. 사람들은 보도에서 여러 방향으로 걷고 있었다. 대부분의 사람들은 두 명이나 3-4명의 무리를 이루고 있었다. 모두가 마치 아주 흥미로운 곳에 가기라도 하는듯 만족한 모습으로 움직이고 있었다. 거기서 나는 그를 다시 보게 되었다. 노숙자 같아 보이는 외로운 남자였고 그는 그 자리에 웬지 어울려 보이지 않았다. 이제 무시당하는 것에 익숙해 진 듯 그는 아래를 바라보고 있었다.
다시 나는 다른 자리로 옮겨졌다. 어느 집의 거실에서 무리의 사람들과 함께 기다리며 있었다. 방 안에는 큰 설렘과 흥분이 감돌았다. 우리는 곧 그가 걸어 들어오시는 걸 볼 것이라는 것을 알았다. 나만큼 그의 얼굴을 보고 시간을 보내고 싶은 열망을 가진 이들과 함께 있다는 것이 좋았다. 시간이 한참 흘러, 사람들은 지루한듯 움직이기도 하고 시계를 바라보기도 했다. 마침내, 초인종이 울렸고, 내가 문을 열었을때 그는 거기에 있었다. 그 노숙자가 문에 서 있는 것이었다. 그는 손에 연필을 들고 있었는데 집안으로 초청을 받게 될지 안 받을지에 대해 초조한 듯 연필을 손가락에 끼고 돌리고 있었다. 어떤 이는 그것이 진짜 연필이냐며 그에게 도전하기도 했다. 그가 그 질문을 받았을때, 그는 연필을 잡아 뜯었고 연필 안에는 하얀 가루가 작은 캡슐안에 숨겨져 있었다. 그가 연필안에 어떤 마약을 숨겨 놓은 것 같은 생각이 스쳐 지나갔다.
그러자 성령께서 "바로 그 분이시다!" 라고 하셨다. 우리는 이 남자안에 주님을 보려고 두 번이나 들여다 보았다. 그리고 그가 마태복음 25:37-40에 하신 말씀을 기억했다. "이에 의인들이 대답하여 이르되 주여 우리가 어느 때에 주께서 주리신 것을 보고 음식을 대접하였으며 목마르신 것을 보고 마시게 하였나이까 어느 때에 나그네 되신 것을 보고 영접하였으며 헐벗으신 것을 보고 옷 입혔나이까 어느 때에 병드신 것이나 옥에 갇히신 것을 보고 가서 뵈었나이까 하리니 임금이 대답하여 이르시되 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 너희가 여기 내 형제 중에 지극히 작은 자 하나에게 한 것이 곧 내게 한 것이니라 하시고" 이런 일이 얼마나 많이 일어났는가? 우리는 주의 얼굴을 구하여 왔지만 그가 우리에게 섬기라 맡겨주시는 사람속에서는 그를 보지 않지 않는가?
이것은 내게 놀라운 가르침이었다. 그러나, 여전히 내가 이해하지 못하는 것이 한가지 있었다. 그것은 연필속의 흰 가루였다. 성령께서는 곧 말씀하시기를, "주님께서 그의 구하는 자들에게 강력한 말씀을 풀어주시려 한다. 가루는 연필, 즉 기록된 말씀 안에 숨겨진 주님의 능력을 말한다. 지금은 주께서 당신에게 하시는 말씀과 당신에게 두드러지는 성경 구절에 세심한 주의를 기울일 때이다. 분별의 은사를 통해 말씀이 풀어지므로 더 깊은 계시 보게 되기를 기대하고 더 많은 이해를 얻도록 기대하라. 지금은 다가오는 변화를 이해하기 위해 영적 분별을 구할때이다. 고린도전서 2:14-16의 말씀을 떠올렸다. "육에 속한 사람은 하나님의 성령의 일들을 받지 아니하나니 이는 그것들이 그에게는 어리석게 보임이요, 또 그는 그것들을 알 수도 없나니 그러한 일은 영적으로 분별되기 때문이라 신령한 자는 모든 것을 판단하나 자기는 아무에게도 판단을 받지 아니하느니라. 누가 주의 마음을 알아서 주를 가르치겠느냐 그러나 우리가 그리스도의 마음을 가졌느니라."
당신이 더 많은 영적 분별력을 구하고 받게 되기를 바란다. 그의 얼굴을 찾고 뵙게 되기를 바란다. 당신이 주님을 만날 때 놀라는 것이 아니라 그의 얼굴을 볼 때마다 그를 영접하고 그가 역사하시도록 성령에 의해 준비되어지기를 기도한다. 아멘!
I had a great desire to seek the face of the Lord this morning. My prayer and desire were like that of David in Psalm 27:7-8, “Hear my voice when I call, O LORD; be merciful to me and answer me. My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, LORD, I will seek.” Do you ever have days like that when all you want to do is seek His face? That is where I am today.
As I was lifted up and carried by the spirit, I found myself going from place to place looking for Him – seeking His face. I saw a group of people sitting together and sharing a meal. They seemed so happy and blessed. Behind them I saw a man who looked something like a homeless man. He appeared to be somewhat mentally challenged and downtrodden. He was not included in the group but was look longingly at them and I felt His desire to be included.
I was carried to a different place and went into a long cavern where I continued to seek His face in this place of isolation. But, I didn’t see anyone there. When I finally emerged from the tunnel, I was on what looked like a city street. People were walking on the sidewalk in various directions. Most of the people were couples or groups of 3-4 people. Everyone seemed content and moving as if going to something of great interest. There was much excitement on their faces and in their voices. Then, I saw him again. It was the lonely man who seemed homeless and somewhat out of place. His eyes were looking down as if he was now accustomed to being ignored.
Again, I was carried to a different place. I was with a group of people waiting in the living room of a house. There was a great deal of excitement in the room. We all knew that we were about to see Him walk in at any minute. It was good to be with a group of people as hungry as I was to see His face and spend time with Him. After a long time, people began to get a little restless and some looked at their watches. Finally, the doorbell rang, and when I answered the door, there he was. The homeless man was standing at the door. He had a pencil in his hand and was moving it back and forth through his fingers as if nervous about whether he would be invited in or not. Someone challenged him by asking if it was a real pencil. When he was asked that question, he pulled the pencil apart and there was a little capsule of white powder hidden inside the pencil. The first thought was that he was hiding some type of drug in the pencil.
Then the Holy Spirit said, “It is Him!” We all did a double take to try to see the Lord in this man. Then I remembered what he said in Matthew 25:37-40, “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’” How many times has this happened. We have been seeking His face and not seeing it in those He brings to us for ministry?
This was a powerful lesson, but there was one thing I still didn’t understand. What was the white powder in the pencil. Then the Holy Spirit said, “The Lord is about to release a powerful word for those who are seeking Him. The powder is the power of the Lord hidden in the pencil and thus in the written Word. Now is a time to pay close attention the words being spoken over you and the parts of the Word which are standing out to you. Expect to see deeper revelations and gain greater understanding as the power in the Word is being released through the gift of discernment. Now is a time to seek spiritual discernment to understand the shift which is coming!” I remembered Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 2:14-16, “The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment: “For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.”
May you seek and receive more of the gift of spiritual discernment! May you seek and find His face! May you not be surprised any longer where you find the Lord, but be prepared by the Holy Spirit to receive Him and minister unto Him wherever you see His face! Amen!
